Let’s reflect on what 1 Peter 3:12-13 tells us:

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

God’s eyes look and follow the righteous only. He will not change His eyesight; He watches over the righteous. When we live in righteousness, it makes God’s eyes watch over us. His eyes remain focused on the righteous, listening to their prayers and responding to them. May His eyes never be off you. May your

righteousness make Him watch you. The Bible says specifically that God’s eyes are with the righteous one only. God, when you look for His eyes, His eyes watch the righteous; His eyes are focused on the righteous one.

Notice, it doesn’t say His eyes are on a person with a title, a position, or earthly success. For God to watch over someone, that person must choose righteousness.

What It Means to Be Righteous

A righteous person is someone who has decided to live a Christ-like life. They don’t want to live outside of God’s kind of life. Their heart desires God’s kind of life, not human or earthly desires. Many people want to be like others or look up to others. But the righteous do something different—they look to Christ as their model.

The Bible tells us in 1 Timothy 4:7: “Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness.” Righteousness is intentional. The signs and lifestyle of the righteous are recognizable. Their model is Christ. They look up to Him, not other humans, and they strive to be like Him. They don’t live in the empty condition of this world.

Biblical Example: Noah

Think about Noah. When God destroyed the earth with water, only Noah was found righteous out of all those people. In the middle of a massive population, God’s eyes were on Noah. God’s eyes never wander from the righteous person and do not turn away from them. He never gives His ear or eyes to the evil ones. The ear is

important; it is the light of the body and the place where we hear. In His governorship of this world, those who have access to His eyes and ears are only the righteous ones. His face is on the ones that do evil; it is hard to escape His face. He will never give the evil doers His eyes or ears. May God never neglect or reject us from being watched and heard by Him. Some lifestyles people choose force God to turn His eyes and ears away from them and make His

face against them.

1 Peter 3:13 Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good?

If you are willing to do good, no one can harm you. Righteous people always want to live God’s life, which is to live for what is good. People don’t like to live like God; they rather like humans’ way of life, which eventually exhausts you. But if you choose to live like God, it is good, structured, ordered, and full of grace and direction.

Righteousness changes your appetite for life. Your desire becomes to live like God, to crave His coming, to

daydream about the life in Christ. This is why God watches over the righteous, listens to their prayers, and gives His 

full attention to them—because He knows they have chosen to live out the life He offered in Christ. The righteous one is the one who has decided to live like Christ, someone living in right relationship with God.

1 Peter 3:14 ESV

But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled. 

Although it might seem that you are singled out from the world when you decide to live in righteousness, you are tapping into the ultimate golden lifestyle. You get the full attention of God—His eyes watch you and His ears hear your prayers. It is one thing to pray, and another to know your prayers are being listened to by God.

2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Righteousness is a lifestyle given to all mankind who are willing to accept it through Jesus Christ to have right standing with God. Christ has done the central work for us. Matthew 6:33 ESV

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Choosing, seeking, and prioritizing righteousness brings unmatched reward. Living in righteousness gives you

access to God’s eyes and ears, so He can watch over you and hear your prayers. Matthew 5:6 ESV Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. His face is turned toward righteousness by default. 1 John 3:7 ESV Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous.
